You know there is a group of Americans, and yes, they are epitomized by fighter pilots, whose whole ethos is exemplified by getting it done, quietly and real quick. For these people, it’s all about self-confidence-and competence.
I’m one of them (although me flying a fighter jet would be very close to suicide), so is Bill Whittle, and so every person you know, who is very good at what they do, no matter what it is.
I’d guess that you’ll find (I sure have) that these people aren’t even slightly arrogant, they just exude a quiet confidence. One could really say: they know who they are. They’re the ones that don’t talk about it, they just go and do it. For any given value of it.
And you know something these are the people that built America, and the free world. If you could go back in history, I’d bet that you’d find that Tom Jefferson and George Washington were the same way
I can nearly hear George looking at Lord Cornwallis and saying, “You really ought to go home”. It just seems in character for him.
But like I said, they are (or at least used to be) quite common, they kept us safe, yes, but they also invented all of the things we take for granted, that make our life immeasurably better than the founders’ were.
Nor is it a guy thing
It’s not so much what we do,
It’s how we do it
